Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Sir Clements Robert Markham, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 7 May 1900 |
Description | Queries if another meeting of the Sectional Committee has been held since the meeting of the Joint Committee on Friday. Queries if the Committee of Naval Officers have reported to the Executive Committee.
The approval by the Joint Committee of the two officers named for lead and second in command is contingent on a report by the Naval Officers that they approve of the appointment, and on a report by the Executive Committee that after considering the Naval Officers report, they also recommend the two officers. These reports should be submitted to the Joint Committee before the names are finally accepted. The matter is of such importance that the decision must be reached in a formal way, especially as he understands that the Naval Officers are by no means agreed at present.
Is sorry Markham queries in his last letter if he is to be trusted on a 'simple point' but Rucker thinks no point can be more important than the appointment of the Commander of the Expedition. |
