Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor George Carey Foster, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 5 October 1900 |
Description | Has not yet heard from [Howard Turner] Barnes on his Joule studentship paper, 'On the Capacity for Heat of Water', regarding the modifications suggested by the referee. The modifications are so slight Harrison does not think the author will have objections. There is a more serious question which Professor [Arthur William] Rucker thinks should be brought to Foster's attention; namely that the paper includes 55 tables which will by themselves cost £35 to print. Rucker thinks it open to considerable doubt whether these are worth printing . Professor [Hugh Longbourne] Callendar, the paper's communicator, asked to have the paper to look through before publication with a view to giving it some editorial revision, and has written the enclosed note [not enclosed], arguing against any reduction.
Encloses the reports of all three referee's on Professor K Pearson's paper 'On the Kinetic Accumulation of Stress' [not enclosed], asks if the paper should now wait for the Committee.
[James Hopwood] Jeans' paper on 'The Distribution of Molecular Energy' and [Jagadis Chunder] Bose's papers 'On an Artificial Retina' await the meeting of the Committee on the 23 October, and Harrison will endeavour to obtain the second referee on Muir's paper by then. |
