Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor Robert Bellamy Clifton, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 4 December 1901 |
Description | A week tomorrow would be the normal day for a meeting of the Physics Committee, but as the Council meets on that afternoon, Harrison asks if Clifton thinks his Committee should sit at the same time. Mr Boys and Professor Turner are members of both the Committee and Council.
Details the current facts regarding Professor [Hugh Longbourne] Callendar's so called preface to Dr [Howard Turner] Barnes' paper ['on the Capacity for Heat of Water']. Will consult Dr Larmor about the matter tomorrow.
The immediate question is whether or not it is to be treated as a paper to be read to the Society. With regard to what Clifton says about Mr Andrews' paper and its shortness, and that fact that only one person reported upon it, the Secretary said he certainly would not take the responsibility of not accepting it. It will therefore come before the Committee, but Harrison would like to know whether Clifton thinks it should be referred to another Fellow first. It has been sent to Professor [James Alfred] Ewing. |
