Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to the Right Honourable Sir Edward Fry, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 29 January 1902 |
Description | The Society has received from Dr S Callandruccio [Salvatore Calandruccio], a protest against the award of the Darwin Medal to Professor [Giovanni Battista] Grassi in 1896, claiming that he is at least equally entitled with Professor Grassi to the credit of the discoveries, in recognition of which the medal was awarded.
Council has appointed a special Committee to examine the claim and nominated Fry as the Chairman of the Committee. They hope Fry will consent to this. The Committee comprises Mr Bateson, Mr Boulenger, Dr Harmer, Professor E R Lankester, Mr Sharp, Professor Sherrington, and the Officers. Bateson is making some preliminary enquiries with a view to the collection of more evidence than is currently in the possession of the Society. |
