Description | The Secretary of State for the Colonies has called to the Royal Society's attention to the desirability of sending out a commission to the West Indies [Caribbean] to investigate the scene of the recent volcanic eruptions. It is proposed to immediately despatch a small commission. The Colonial Office has expressed its readiness to afford the Commission every facility to carry out the study in St Vincent and the neighboring Islands. Harrison asks if the Board will provide the services of a government geologists to serve on the expedition. It is proposed that they leave next week, and return no later than July.
The Commission will act under instructions from, and will report to a Committee of the Royal Society. |
