Description | The Commission despatched to study the recent volcanic activity in the West Indies [Caribbean] consists of [John Smith] Flett and Tempest Anderson. They left Southampton yesterday on the R M S 'Trent'. They are headed for Barbados, where they will tranship for St Vincent and carry out their investigation. If the opportunity arises they will also give some attention to Martinique.
Harrison is in receipt of their letter informing the Royal Society that the Admiralty have instructed the Commander in Chief on the North American and West Indies [Caribbean] station to facilitate the expedition. This will be useful, as transport around the disturbed islands will be very considerable. |
