| Description | Glad to hear that arrangements have been made with the Treasury for the payments of the Antarctic men. What he thinks about the Government endowment of research is what most of the Fellows would agree to if they saw it [as?] the last chance of getting the Treasury to work a permanent post for the study of the parasite prototype. The immediate question is whether the Royal Society should receive £1000 annually for five years. To act in concert with other co-equal organisations is another position, which may have some difference of opinion.
A letter has come from [Rubert] Boyce of the [Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine]. Colonel David Bruce has seen this letter and thinks the members of the Tropical Diseases Committee should see it and advise accordingly. It looks like another endeavour to secure a slice of the £1000. Geikie does not see why they are being asked to pay the expenses. If they go to Uganda they might well have the facilities of the station at Entebbe. But it would be a costly business to transport them across the continent to the East Coast. |
