| Description | Was sorry to hear from him that he had no English assistant in his Seismological work at Shide, this must be remedied. Milne needs to be in a position to train an assistant who would be competent to relieve him of his duties. As he is currently working single handed, Geikie feels that Milne has been burdened with a heavy load in being asked to take charge of the Antarctic Seismic Observations. The Treasurer agreed he ought to have adequate remuneration. Asks if it is possible for him to get an assistant to aid him.
Geikie has been reflecting over the topics discussed yesterday, and feels more convinced that although they might regret that the kind of international co-operation of the kind proposed at Strasbourg was ever started, the wisest course is not to stand wholly aloof, but to join in as may seem reasonable. The British Seismological work will go on just the same as before, perhaps even better. He is much more bent on getting that carried out than on any continental bureau. |
