| Description | The President and Council have been considering the best means of coping with Sleeping Sickness and have two scientific men at work investigating the disease in Uganda and are now sending a third for the special purpose of studying the natural history of the fly which carries the infection. It is felt much more vigorous measures are urgently required than have yet been taken, if they are to hope for an early discovery of preventive measures.
The President and Council through their Tropical Diseases Committee, have drawn up a statement of the present position of the question, of which a copy is here enclosed [not enclosed], and Geikie wishes to emphasize the desirability of having a conference between the Foreign Office and Colonial Office and three or four representatives of the Royal Society, with the object of discussing the measures that should be taken in view of the serious spread of the disease. Suggests this occur before the middle of March. |
