Title | Copy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Professor [Albert Auguste Cochon] de Lapparent |
Date | 1 July 1905 |
Description | The Academy of Sciences has probably received from De Lapparent's Government copies of some documents transmitted by the German Government proposing a conference in Berlin to consider the conclusions arrived at last October by the Committee of the International Association of Academies, which met at Frankfort. The British Government has received copies of the same documents and has asked the Royal Society to advise it as to whether a delegate should be sent to the proposed conference. The Royal Society's Seismological Committee has considered the question and agreed that the Government should be asked to send a delegate on condition that the decisions of the Frankfort connection be in all essential particulars strictly adhered to. Council meets on 6 July and Geikie has no doubt it will agree to the Seismological Committee's recommendation. The Society does not thinks that any fresh conference is needed, after all the trouble that was taken at Frankfort. If the Academy of Sciences of Paris has had the matter under consideration he would be glad to know if any action has been decided upon. |
