Title | Copy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Arthur Schuster, [Fellow of the Royal Society] |
Date | 22 November 1905 |
Description | Thanks Schuster for his letter which gives the information required. As Schuster will see from the enclosed letter from Judd [not enclosed], they may have some difficulty in stearing their ship safely through troubled waters. If they do not call a meeting of the Seismological Committee they shall have to put the matter before Council . The Treasury letter of which Geikie sent Schuster a copy should come before the COuncil first before it can be considered by the Committee and the Council, if it sees fit, need not consult the Committee further, but take the matter in to its own hands. [John] Perry is presently on the Council ad will no doubt strongly oppose Geikie's proposal to waive the consent of France to join [the International Seismic Organsation].
Encloses a letter from Milne [not enclosed] . Geikie has written to Milne about a project to get Boards B and D to propose a sound annual grant for say four years from the Government Grant to help Milne's orgnaisation. Milne persists in affirming that he is asked to work under German supervision. In vain Geikie has endeavoured to show him that he and his work will go on just the same a ever. |
