| Description | Before acknowledging de Lapparent's letter of 23 November in reference to Seismological matters Geikie wished to consult some of the Committee at the Royal Society. The general feeling of the Royal Society appears to be that though the participation of France was greatly to be desired and was one of the Society's stipulations, the Society should advise the Government to join the International Seismic Association even it France does not. Cannot say what the ultimate decision of the Council may be but thinks that if the Government asks whether the participation of France is to be considered an absolutely necessary condition for Britain to join, the Council will not insist on that condition but advise that Britain should join for four years. |
