Description | In reply to Field's letter of 22nd, Harrison says that the international Geographical Society Map of Europe is a creation of the International Geographical Compress - a miscellaneous gathering of Geologists from all parts of the world who meet once in three years in a different capital each time. Next year they hold their meeting in Stockholm. The Government Fund of £400 a year administered to the Royal Society for the Geographical Society but they probably receive more. In return for Royal Society publications the Royal Society receives a certain number of the published sheets. Harrison has no knowledge whether the knowledge as to whether the German Government subsidies but it is probable. The undertaking is an important one and it deserves all the support it gets. If Field desires a complete set of the published sheets of the International Geographical Map of Europe Harrison would be delighted to send one for the Admiralty. |
