| Description | Rix is sorry he cannot given Haan much information about the points in his card of 28 January. The Council Minutes do not begin until 1663 and the first entry about longitude at sea is in 1664 when Dr Hook [Hooke] made a proposal to try certain experiments. About the 'Portugais' he can find nothing at all. John, Lord Viscount Massarene, Sir Anthony Morgan, Sir Peter Pett and Peter Pett, were all declared fellows by the first Council at a meeting on 20 May 1663. Rix is not sure which of the Petts is the right one and supposes Dr is not a mistake for Senior. Lord Massarene died in 1695 but he can find no particulars about the others. |
