Description | 'Dear Sir, I am much obliged to you for your letter relating to the book on Malabar by Phillips which you mention as being in your [presentation]. I cannot find any record of the book here either in present or past catalogues of the Library, and I incline to the belief that it has been weeded out of the Library at some earlier date, with other presentation books that were not considered suitable for inclusion in the Library catalogue. If, in your opinion, the book in question is one of any scientific value we should be very glad to have it back in the Library; but if it is a mere popular account of Malabar I do not think I should be justified in accepting your kind of offer, because our Library is already so very crowded, and we have to limit ourselves rather closely to strictly scientific books.' |
