TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Mr E J Howard, Norton Rise, Lincoln
Date23 July 1891
DescriptionRix acknowledges Howard's note of 20 July demanding payment of Rectorial tithes, and notes that it is the first time they have seen any such notice, as it was not sent to them. The Royal Society have taken advice on the subject, and discovered that the owner is required to pay the tithe directly to the title-owner, but that the tenant is bound to repay the owner, unless under contract to pay the tithe.

As Howard is under contract to pay the tithe and the Rector's agents have applied to him, he should pay the title as he has done in the past, direct to the tithe owner. It will prevent the roundabout process of the Society paying and then demanding the money from them, and will minimise trouble to all parties. Howard can pay it as an agent of the Society.
