Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir Henry Wentworth Dyke Acland, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 30 May 1892 |
Description | Rix thanks Acland for his note of 28 May and is glad to learn the Royal Society's porter carried out his duties properly and all went well. Rix will bring the question of photographing the portrait before the Officers. Rix apologises for having entirely forgotten that the Royal Society has two other portraits of [Robert] Boyle, both hung in 'dark corners' of their apartments. One appears to be the original of Acland's engraving and has no artist's name. The other is a small painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller. Neither is published in the Society's 'Catalogue of Portraits' but in a few months they will publish in the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society' a complete list of all the portraits in their possession, and these two shall be included. Rix quotes an entry in the Council Minutes, 16 November 1692 concerning the Boyle portrait borrowed for Acland's Soirée. |
