| Description | In reply to Foster's of 16 September, Rix is afraid it is not competent for Foster to withdraw from the nomination of Professor [Georg Hermann] Quincke at the present state. Foster will see from the inclosed printed regulation [not attached] that the detailed statement for which Rix is now asking has to be handed in at the time of proposal and Rix is forced to print something in support of the proposal made on 16 June.
If Foster does not wish to give a detailed statement, Rix shall have to print either that Quincke is proposed for his researches on light, or else he must apply to the seconder, Professor Brown, for the fuller qualifications. Rix asks to know which Foster would prefer.
Dr [Hermann Johann Phillipp] Sprengel has been in more that once urging that his statement should be reported on and sent to Sir Frederick Abel as soon as possible. Rix promised Sprengel that he would mention this to Foster, the referee.
