Title | Copy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Lord Rayleigh [Robert John Strutt], FRS |
Date | 11 January 1924 |
Description | Informs Lord Rayleigh [Robert John Strutt] that the paper by [James Riddick] Partington [and A. B. Howe] 'The Ratio of the Specific Heats of Nitrogen and of Oxygen' has been reduced and so will be printed as agreed. Informs Rayleigh of three papers to discuss at the Committee meeting: [Richard] D. Kleeman's paper 'The Absolute Zeros of the Externally Controllable Internal Energy and Entropy of a Substance or Mixture', which [Frederick Alexander] Lindemann has reported unfavourably on; 'The Electrode Potentials and the Energy of Solvation' by [Jaroslav] Heyrovsky, which [Sir James] Walker has reported unfavourably on; and D. H. Bangham and F. P. Burt's paper 'The Behaviour of Gases in Contact with Glass Surfaces' as been reported on favourably by [Francis William] Aston and [Herbert Brereton] Baker, although it is very long. R. J. Lang's paper 'The Ultra-violet Spark-Spectra of some of the Elements' has been reported on unfavourably by [Alfred] Fowler and [Thomas Ralph] Merton, so asks Rayleigh if he might look through it briefly. Discusses potentially relaxing the 24-page limit for papers in the Proceedings. |
