| Description | Updates on matters of Royal Society business, with Rix noting that it seems impossible to settle matters in the 'Thursday rush!'.
He had asked Lord Rayleigh [John William Strutt] to speak with Foster about Bower's paper and [Alfredo Antunes] Kanthack and [William Bate] Hardy's paper, but is unsure as to whether he has done so. Rix wanted to ask Foster if there is any chance of getting Professor Alfred Newton to give them his 'Dictionary of Birds'. He also wanted to know which papers are considered 'safe', allowing him to arrange the most convenient meeting with authors, and so he asks if Foster could mark them on the inclosed list.
Rix also sends a list of plates which the Cambridge Engraving Company have in hand. With regard to Groom's paper, he notes that he has written many times, and although they have responded apologetically, he is not sure this exonerates them for taking nine months over the plates. As they have not even seen the first proofs, it will now be a year before they are finished, and he states 'This is surely preposterous'. |
