Description | A crossed out section states that Foster's note came a little late, as Mr White, having receiving instructions from Lord Rayleigh to have a specimen page set up in 'Proceedings of the Royal Society' form, did so, and sent the specimen to Oliver Heaviside.
With regard to the Committee dates, Rix states that on 8 February they ought to have a Soirée Committee, if they want the cards for the May Soirée to go out six weeks before as on previous occasions, or at least before the February Council. He proposes that they have a Lawes Trust Committee on the 15 February, unless Foster's preference is for Wednesday of that week.
Rix explains how the Diatomaceae matter stands, namely that Mr Carruthers stated that 'Marris' was a misprint for 'Murray', and that he summoned Murray to the committee meeting. They are noted as having met last Thursday; Mr Dyer did not attend, but the others did. They drew up their report, which arrived that morning with the vouchers and accounts for all the grant. Now that the matter is concluded, the committee may cease to exist, and Rix suggests that if Foster can let the matter drop, that he do so.
He encloses the list of 1 February [not included] and asks if he should send it to 'Nature' the next day. Any alterations need to be telegraphed to Rix before noon. |
