Linnaean Library.

Original drawings by Corregio, Parmigiano and N. Poussin, from the Royal Collection, exhibited by permission of H.M. The Queen.
Autographs and letters of eminent persons. Mr. G. W. Manners.

Coloured drawings of fish by native Chinese artists. Mr. J. [John] Russell Reeves.
Series of fossil fishes, Pentacrinites &c., from Dorsetshire; and a series of rare minerals. Mr. J. R. [James Reynolds] Gregory.
Specimens of 73 species of the land-birds of New Guinea and the Pauan Islands. Collected and exhibited by Mr. A. R. [Alfred Russel] Wallace.
The rigid spectroscope contrived and made for J. P. Gassiot by John Browning; and spectroscope to exhibit the faint spectra in electrical stratifications. Exhibited by Mr. [John Peter] Gassiot.
Railway velocity indicator. Invented and exhibited by Mr. W. A. Brown.
New revolving spectroscope with novel effects. Micrometric apparatus in aluminium to measure to the 1/100,000th of an inch. Micrometric apparatus to measure to the 1/1,000,000th of an inch. Spectrum analysis applied to the microscope, new arrangement. Star spectroscope as used by W. [William] Huggins F.R.A.S. Block of extra dense flint glass; weight 17lbs. Contrived and exhibited by Mr. J. Browning.
Sculpture: bust of the late Duke of Newcastle. Mr. Alexander Munro.
Specimens showing the microscopic structure of iron and steel. Spectrum microscope with double-image prism, with applications, and certain remarkable results with blood-stains. Mr. H. C. [Henry Clifton] Sorby.

Linnaean Meeting Room.

Axis of 5-ft. transit instrument of aluminium bronze, in one casting by Mr. T. Cooke. Two theodolites: 5 ½ inches and 12 inches. Constructed and exhibited by Mr. [Thomas] Cooke. 3-feet theodolite, the principal parts of aluminium bronze. zenith sector (of gun metal), Designed by Colonel A. [Alexander] Strange. For use in the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India.
Two theodolites: 14 inches and 12 inches. Messrs. Troughton and Simms.
Specimens of platinum showing different stages and forms of preparation. Ingot of platinum (model) from one casting; value £3,800. Large platinum boiler used for concentration of sulphuric acid; value, complete with syphon, £2,000. Specimens of wire and castings of magnesium. Specimens of gold, showing different stages and forms of preparation. Messrs. Johnson, Matthey and Company.

Dr. Sprengel's air-pump; vacuum produced by the running of mercury. Apparatus to show the development of heat in the growth of plants. Messrs. Elliott Brothers.
Models of casks, with flexible diaphragm (applicable to all vessels) for excluding air from liquids; and self-acting valves. Mr. S. Bourne.
Various apparatus, showing effects of polarized light, including a Darker's selenite stage. Messrs. C. and F. Darker.

All the trees, plants and flowers throughout the apartments are lent by the Royal Botanic Society.

A pair of Walker's electro-magnetic telegraph semaphores. Mr. C. V. [Charles Vincent] Walker.
F. N. [Frederick Newton] Gisborne's patent electric ship-signals for engine-room and steersman, with model of engine-shaft and rudder. Exhibited by the India-rubber, Gutta-percha, and Telegraph-works Company Limited (late Silver and Company, Joint Proprietors).

'Crystal Cube' binocular miniatures (new optical combination). Exhibited for the Casket Portrait Company by Henry Swan.
Four slabs of carved wood from the gates of the Palace of Masaba Sultan of Nupe, collected by the late Dr. [William Balfour] Baikie. Exhibited by Dr. D. S. Price.

Lower Library.

Sampson's automatic fog-signal, or bell-buoy; Ingall's hydraulic tank, an improved method for storing petroleum, naphtha and other volatile oils, without risk of loss by evaporation; Stevens's improved double-roller cotton gin, of Churka. Exhibited by Mr. T. Bourne.
Ritchie's monitor compass, used in the United States' Navy. Ritchie's liquid binnacle compass. Invented and exhibited by Mr. E. S. [Edward Samuel] Ritchie.

Meeting Room.

Colomb's patent flashing night and day signal. Apparatus invented by Capt. Colomb, R.N., for land and sea service, Shewn with oil and lime-light. Exhibited by Mr. W. Nunn by direction of Capt. [Philip Howard] Colomb.

Illumination by magnesium light at 10.15, by Messrs, Johnson, Matthey and Company.
