Title | Referee's report by Arthur Schuster, on a paper 'The resistive and electromotive forces of the electric arc' by William Duddell |
Date | March 1904 |
Description | Sectional committee: Physics and chemistry
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. It contains observations which may prove useful and descriptions of method which have a certain value. Does not think it marks a distinct step in the advancement of natural knowledge because he believes that the point of view from which the question is approached cannot lead to any extension of knowledge of the arc. The paper should be shortened somewhat in accordance with Professor [George Carey] Foster's suggestion. Pages one to nine should be retained in its present form. Pages 28-29 and 44-45 should be omitted as Foster suggests, in fact he would be inclined to cut from page 44 to the end. Appendix I can be omitted. Figure four should be left out. Only the general shape of the curves is necessary, and these can therefore be shown at a small scale. If Appendix I is omitted, curve VII will go with it.
