Title | Letter from Joseph Norman Lockyer, on his paper with Captain Chisolm-Batten and Alexander Pedler 'Total eclipse of the sun, January 22, 1898, observations at Visiadrug' to Arthur William Rucker |
Date | 26 March 1900 |
Description | Sectional committee: Physics and chemistry
He long ago came to the conclusion that the spectroscopic results of the 1898 Eclipse would be all the more valuable if discussed in relation to those of 1893 and 1896, and has for some time been engaged in bringing the results of the three series of photography together, not as a formal eclipse report, but as a paper on 'the spectra of the chromosphere and corona'. This paper is far advanced and it is quite possible that the 1900 results, if any are obtained, may also be included. Under these circumstances the delay of the three reports just read may perhaps be reconsidered especially as it seems desirable that particulars of the organisation of the large party of observers at Viziadrug should be published as soon as possible, for the benefit of other parties preparing for the eclipses of this year and next.
