Title | Referee's report by Charles Vernon Boys, a paper 'A radical area-scale' by R W K Edwards |
Date | 16 February 1904 |
Description | Sectional Committee: [Mathematics]
Recommended for publication in Proceedings. The conclusion Boys came to is exactly that which Boys suggested. He thinks the diagram should be published full size as without it the scheme of division is not at all clear. This would require a folding plate and if that was considered too expensive it might be reduced in the proportion of 1: 1/2.54 and the text altered to square centimeters instead of square inches. Thinks the arguments about the harmlessness of points of inflexion versus the long algebraical formulae for the true areas, and for those found in particular cases, might be left out. A short paragraph of the 'evils' of tangency would be necessary. Boys does not know how the method compares in accuracy and convenience with known methods.
