TitleCopy of Referees' comments [by James Gray and David Keilin], on a paper 'On the nature and permeability of Chitin, III - The nature and origin of the membranes surrounding the developing eggs of Homarus vulgaris' by [Charles Maurice] Yonge
Date[April 1937]
DescriptionPaper reference code: B.121

First referee [James Gray] states that the author 'does not realize how badly his reputation has suffered by his persistent adventures into things he knows nothing about'. Suggests he returns to his work on sealife and feeding. Second referee's comments describes the paper's experiments as 'superficial and crude', and argues that the author 'dabbles in a subject of which he has no intimate knowledge'. Refers author to 'a similar work on insects by J Pantel "Les enveloppes du l'oeuf evac leurs dependances", La Cellule, 1912, 29, 1-288, Pls. I-VII'. Suggests a much shortened version could be put forward to the Zoological Journal.
