TitleLetter from [Charles Drummond] Ellis to Sir Frank [Edward] Smith, regarding a paper 'The adsorption of oxygen and hydrogen on platinum and the removal of these gases by positive-ion bombardment' by [Charles William] Oatley
Date14 November 1938
DescriptionPaper reference code: A.162

Has seen the letter sent to Oatley rejecting the paper [see RR/W/6/91] and is disappointed with the referee's comments. Believes the paper to be novel and significant. Explains the methodology for experiments on platinum. Argues that is not the platinum itself, but the 'field of experimenting with these barrier layers' that the paper contributes to, which is of interest. Does not intend to undermine the referee, but wishes to support Oatley.
