Description | Commencing [p.1] with a list of early subscribers to the Royal Society Club [a later annotation dates this at 27 October 1743], with other notes on a single sheet including 'A Dinner to be ordered every Thursday...'. The volume continues with a list of rules and orders for the 'Thursday's Club called the Royal Philosophers' [pp.6-7] and a list of subscribers, 1743-1770 [pp.8-9]. There are annual accounts for the years 1750-1766, showing 'The State of the Fund' [pp.10-13]. Minutes of meetings commence from 27 July 1749, under the Presidency of Martin Folkes [p.14], the main business being vacancies caused by the deaths or absences of members, the balloting of candidates to become members of the Club, payments of dues, and other general matters. From 1756 these 'General Meetings' begin to be held in June or July only, as an Annual Meeting, with occasional special meetings for extraordinary business. |
