Title | Letter from W M [William Moore] Shirreff, 53 Gresham House, Old Broad Street, London, to Sir John Evans, Nash Mills, Hemel Hempstead |
Creator | Shirreff; William Moore (fl.1890s); British solicitor |
Recipient | Evans; Sir John (1823-1908); British archaeologist, numismatist, and paper manufacturer |
Date | 20 June 1893 |
Description | He notes the substance of the meeting between representatives of the Royal Society Club and the new Royal Societies Club. He believes that Mr [Robert Henry] Scott was 'rather militant' and gives an account of his arguments, and their responses as to why the two titles were not confusing. Various suggestions on renaming were proposed; Sherriff asks if it were changed to 'Royal Learned Societies', would they have the support of Evans and the Royal Society. If so, they would ask Lord Kelvin to be their President. |
