TitleLetter from William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, to Dr [Robert Henry] Scott
CreatorHuggins; Sir William (1824-1910); British astronomer
RecipientScott; Robert Henry (1833-1916); Irish meteorologist
Date3 February 1902
DescriptionHe does not know if he is informed correctly that Lord Avebury invited or permitted a discussion of the British Academy issue at the Royal Society Club. He asks if it is not a dangerous precedent for Royal Society questions where there is a difference of opinion, and which have been settled by Council, to be reopened. At the Philosophical Club, talk had been limited to scientific questions, but he does not know the custom at the Royal Society Club. He thinks that Club officers should prevent discussion of this order. He thought it wise to write privately on the matter in case he had been incorrectly informed as to what took place. He is sending a second postcard limiting admission to Fellows only next Thursday and he hopes that Scott will come.
