Title | Letter from W W [William Whitehead] Watts, Hillside, Langley Park, Sutton, Surrey, to Sir Capel [Holden] |
Creator | Watts; William Whitehead (1860-1947); British geologist and educationalist |
Recipient | Holden; Sir Henry Capel Lofft (1856-1937); British army officer and automotive engineer |
Date | 13 March 1923 |
Description | Watts notes the arrangement with Macmillan, who published at their own risk and allowed the Club 200 copies of the book at a reduced rate. These went to members of the Royal Society Club. Macmillan will sell off the remainder at 5 shillings, to get rid of them. The Club has first opportunity to take remainder copies of the Club history, but Club members might well have this and Bonney's book on the Philosophical Club. The Club is not obliged to purchase the remainder, but it may not be a bad speculation at 5 shillings, to sell at 6 shillings. He does not know the mechanisms involved. |
