DescriptionCommencing with a list of attendees, Professor Charles Scott Sherrington in the chair. Items discussed included: the invitation of the Bakerian Lecturers to the dinner, and Miss Constance Elam's declining the invitation. Ernest Rutherford and Smith Woodward proposed and seconded a box of chocolates to be sent to Miss Elam. The Treasurer gave notice that a motion would be proposed at the next meeting, on procedure in the event that a woman was appointed to give the Bakerian or Croonian lectures in the future. Mr [Charles Vernon] Boys drew attention to the practice of inviting distinguished foreigners to dine, which had fallen into disuse. Dr Alexander Scott described the portrait of Oliver Cromwell at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and its deterioration following reproduction by the Medici Society and later treatment. Sir Sidney Harmer exhibited photographs showing the size of the Blue Whale, including the bones of the lower jaw erected as a Gothic Arch at the entrance of Mr. Murdo Morrison's house on the island of Lewes. 'Blue Whales are one of the two species which are now the principal objects of pursuit by Whaling Companies'.
