CreatorWatts; William Whitehead (1860-1947); British geologist and educationalist
RecipientHolden; Sir Henry Capel Lofft (1856-1937); British army officer and automotive engineer
Date25 February 1923
DescriptionHe has heard via Sir Archibald Geikie that Macmillans propose to sell the remainder of his History [of the Royal Society Club] at a low price. Sir Archibald thinks the Club should know of it, in case they wish to increase their stock on advantageous terms. Watts cannot recall the nature of the agreement but he thinks Geikie gave up his rights in favour of the Club, and there must be minutes. Bonney's History [of the Philosophical Club] came later. He has written to Macmillans for details, thinking that the Club's stock must be depleted.
