Title | Letter from Thomas Gold to Dr David Edge, Director, Science Studies Unit, University of Edinburgh, 34 Buccleuch Place, Deinburgh, EH8 9JT, UK |
Description | Gold thanks him for letting him see the draft.
He does not think that a group of physicists at Cornell were concerned with founding the Center for Radiophysics and Space Research, and regrets to say that Hans Bethe had nothing to do with it. Dale Corson (the present Cornell president) then Chairman of the Physics Department and later Dean of Engineering. was the motive power in getting Gold to leave Harvard and come to Cornell. The Center was born purely in discussions between them, as an organization that Gold would regard as a sufficient incentive for Gold to make the change from Harvard to Cornell. Booker, Gordon, Morrison, Saltpeter, Greisen, Cocconi were early important members. |
