TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr Arthur R Kantrowitz, AVCO-Everett Research Laboratory, 2385 Revere Beach Parkway, Everett, Massachusetts
Date6 October 1977
DescriptionStates he is now ready to draw up proposals and could use now the description of laser observations and the cost estimates for the pilot station.

There is no need to include the cost of any site rental - that can be done through other channels. Also building space, power, etc need not be included. It should be the cost of the instruments, the travel such as to the west coast for installing and de-bugging etc, an occasional visit thereafter, on the assumption that local scientists there look after it at other times.

Also states the corner reflector should be large, so that the beam does not miss it during an earthquake, and the laser support may be suitably disconnected from the ground with a long time-constant suspension

Confirms that in other respects the project is going very well. The earthquake evidence they have collected now is overwhelming. Gold will shortly send him a paper on all this.
