TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr John B Slaughter, Assistant Director, AAEO, National Science Foundation, 1800 G Street, N.W., Washington DC
Date8 November 1978
DescriptionGold is approaching Slaughter because of a situation that has arisen that gives a very serious cause for concern. Apparently a proposal was re-directed within the NSF to a different deparment from the one originally intended, resulting in a confused situation, They are, as a result, confronted with the problem of having to dismiss their team, including one from abroad, whith whom they have been working on a subject of considerable significance, namely the investigation of the processes of outgassing of the Earth.

Explains its importance, the interest and encouragement from Senator Kennedy, the enthusiasm from the scientific community, and the way the proposal was presented to the NSF, where it was inadvertently diverted to the Geochemistry division, instead of various other divisions.

Will be coming into Washington on November 15, and asks if he can speak with Slaughter then.
