In view of the urgency of investigting this phenomenon while it lasts (from all the points of view outlined in Gold's paper on 'Sources of Terrestrial Carbon....) he is tempted to submit a proposal to their division, but this would make sense only if it could be evaluated very rapidly and really treated as an emergency situation. Asks them to let him know if this is seen as a possibility.
Gold's plan would be to locate some of the natural gas seeps, collect samples for analysis and determine the quantities involved. This would be in cooperation with Mitre and with NCAR. |
