TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr Robert A Frosch, Administrator, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA Headquarters, Washington DC
Date12 April 1978
DescriptionThanks him for his note. States there is one area where, in his opinion, NASA can contribute in a major way to the solution of the energy problem along the lines Gold proposes. Methane can be detected by a downward-looking satellite, and it would be of immense importance to have a continuous global methane map, and identify any temporary large methane seeps right away. This would be of value to earthquake prediction as well as to the search for natural gas.

States if any group within NASA were to undertake a study of this possibility Gold would be glad to help. They now have a very large amount of information on the numerous gas and tectonic relationships.
