Description | 'Dear Mr Vice-Chancellor
We, the undersigned signatories of the nomination papers of Pandit Nehru, have just learnt that he does not desire to enter into an election contest for the Chancellorship of the University.
Many who had hoped to see him as Chancellor will deeply regret his decision, whatever the reasons for it. It is evident, nevertheless, that his express wishes must be respected. We propose, therefore, to arrange for the issue of a flysheet as soon as possible, requesting members of the Senate not to record votes for Pandit Nehru.
In intimating his inability to become a participant in the contested election, the Prime Minister of India has expressed warm appreciation of the honour which it was sought to do him in nominating him for this high office. He feels sure that his present decieion will not be construed as implying any disrespect to his University. Pandit Nehru has also expressed his gratitude to all members of the Senate and friends who nominated him or otherwise declared their support for his nomination.
