Title | Unpublished letter, regarding Charles Wildbore's paper from [Nevil] Maskelyne to Sir Joseph Banks |
Date | 26 May 1787 |
Description | Letter from Maskelyne regarding Wildbore's paper on spherical motion (see AP/7/16), explaining that he read the paper but struggled to understand certain terms used by Wildbore, and doubts whether all of Wildbore's assertions are true, although he finds something 'neat, geometrical and ingenious' in the paper. He asks Banks to clarify these terms with Wildbore.
A note at the end of the letter explains that Maskelyne was unable to attend the Council of the Royal Society meeting due to a broken shin caused by a slipping ladder. He also requests that Banks accept his paper on latitude and longitude of Greenwich ('Concerning the latitude and longitude of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich; with remarks on a memorial of the late M. Cassini de Thury', published in volume 77 of Philosophical Transactions).
