Title | Letter from Joseph Larmor and Archibald Geikie, Secretaries of the Royal Society, to the Secretary of His Majesty's Treasury |
Date | 8 November 1904 |
Description | Discusses proposals for the administration of the Meteorological Office. Agrees that the Royal Society should continue to be involved in the Meteorological Service., but thinks that a committee in control of any grants should meet more frequently than was suggested. Notes that unless satisfactory provision can be made for the scientific side of the service, working together with the Government of India (which has expressed willingness to contribute to the work conducted in England), then the Royal Society cannot usefully enter into a fresh agreement to be responsible for the Meteorological Service. |
