| Description | Asks for the President's help with regard to the International Astrographic Chart. Notes that he has been in correspondence with Mr [William Ernest] Cooke, Government Astronomer of West Australia, and encloses a letter from Cook. Also encloses a letter from the Astronomer Royal, who is in poor health. Informs Sir William Huggins of an urgent matter: that the Australian Government have issued instructions for the Government Astronomer (Cook) to terminate the work he has undertaken for the International Astrographic Chart on 31 December. Thinks that this would be disasterous, that Cook should continue taking plates for another two years, and then the plates could be measured in Europe. Thinks that the Royal Society's support would help greatly. |
