TitleCopy letter from Sir William Huggins, President of the Royal Society, to [Henry Bruce] Lefroy, Agent General for Western Australia
Date19 January 1903
DescriptionIs sorry that the Premier of Western Australia complains of the expression 'breach of faith' in Sir William Huggins' letter regarding the International Astrographic Chart. Explains that he meant that British Astronomers would be held by foreign nations to be guilty of a breach of faith if they let a portion of the important international undertaking lapse, creating a gap in the work [as it would if the Perth Observatory ceased work on the International Astrographic Chart, as they have been instructed to by the Australian Government]. Begs leave to withdraw the phrase 'breach of faith'. Hopes that the Western Australian Government will see the international character of the work.
