| Description | This drawing and description of an (al)chemical engine called a 'machina metero-poetica', sent to the Royal Society by the governor of the Pleissenburg in Leipzig [Saxony, Germany], a mathematician who was especially interested in the making of optical instruments. The engine was discussed in the Royal Society meeting on 24 May 1677, 'but not thought satisfactory'.
