Citation | Distinguished for Researches in Elasticity and other branches of Engineering Theory. Author of papers on Balancing of Engines (Proc Inst Naval Arch, 1911); Distribution of Stress in Plates (ibid, 1913, 1925; Proc Roy Soc, 1923); Special Cases of Two-dimensional Stress (Proc Inst Naval Arch, 1922); Theory of Transverse Oscillation of Girders under Moving Loads (Proc Inst CE, 1924). This last investigation is fundamentally important in relation to the work of the Bridge Stress Committee, of which he is a member. Well known also for his inventions of military bridges admitting of rapid erection, which were of great service in the later stages of the war. |
