CitationAuthor of papers in 'Technical Reports of the Advisory Committee of Aeronautics,' dealing with calculations of stability and stresses of aeroplanes and with practical work on the relation between models and full-scale aeroplanes. Author of 'Applied Aerodynamics' (1919). Researches include work on the electric discharge, investigations of isotopes by means of anode rays, and scattering of anode rays by gases. He is especially distinguished for his brilliant experimental discoveries in connection with the diffraction of cathode rays by crystalline matter.
