Citation | Distinguished for his investigations on the physics and chemistry of photographic processes and materials, and the organisation of the Eastman Kodak Research Laboratory which he still directs. Produced (1906 to 1912) the first photographic plates approaching uniform sensitiveness and the 'Wratten' filters. Under his direction the Kodak Laboratory (1912-1935) has developed new photographic emulsions useful in Astronomy, X-ray, Spectrography, etc. Has recently applied new cyanine dyes synthesised in the Laboratory to produce (1930) the first 'supersensitive' panchromatic materials and to extend spectrography to 13000 A.
