Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to the knowledge of the Zeeman effect and the analysis of atomic spectra. He developed methods of analysing unresolved Zeeman patterns and contributed greatly - and as one of the first - to the understanding of Autoionisation and perturbation in atomic spectra. Discovered the important 5S term in carbon. During the war he served as Chief Canadian Scientific Liaison Officer in London. |
