Title | Edmond, John Marmion: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1982 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his work in geochemistry and chemical oceanography. He has made a special study of the processes and mechanisms controlling the composition of oceanic and continental waters and sediments in space and time. He has played a major part in the discovery, exploration and interpretation of the submarine hot springs found on active ocean ridges, showing that the fluxes of elements removed from and injected into the ocean waters at these sites are of major importance in the global chemical balance. These studies have also made a major contribution to the understanding of the metalliferous sediments of the ocean floor and genesis of certain kinds of ore-deposit. He received the Macelwane Award of the American Geophysical Union in 1978. |
