Citation | Dr Kelly became well-known during the seventies for his many and ingenious advances in the analysis of stochastic networks of queues or processors. His reputation became confirmed on publication of Reversibility and Stochastic Networks (1979) which integrated these results with a wide and scattered literature. In particular, his generalisations of the so-called Jackson networks were of great practical importance; his relaxation of the concept of reversibility ('quasi-reversibility') of deep structural significance. His more recent work on blocking in networks and on communication networks (dynamic channel allocation, protocols for random channel access) is recognised internationally as being in the very forefront. |
